A Clean House is a Happy House!

I have been in an organization craze lately. I rent a very small area out of my Mom's house right now and to fit 3 people's stuff in there requires alot of creative thinking! I figured I would share with you some of the tips and tricks I have heard, learned and figured out myself along the way!

- First off, you always want to purge! Go through your stuff and anything that hasn't been used in 6 months, get rid off! You can sell it, give it away or trash it if it's too cruddy, but GET IT OUT! Of course, as far as baby stuff goes the rules are bent a little. Keep big/expensive stuff if you are planning to have another baby soon, but with clothes...only keep the items that are in good condition. If something has sentimental value, but is not wearable consider making a memory quilt.

-Under bed storage is a great way to store blankets, shoes, out-of-season clothing, sewing/craft supplies or anything that is not used on a daily basis. Some come with wheels and two half lids to make accessing them easier!

-Putting a dresser or shelves in closets also helps to expand the amount of room you have. Clothes, shoes, games....there is so much space underneath those hanging clothes, why not put it to good use? There are expensive closet organizers, but why spend so much when you can visit your local superstore (Walmart here!) and buy a couple shelves for $40 each?!?! Or even find some at a garage sale.

-Canvas totes on shelves are also a great tool, not only for organizing, but also for keeping things looking neat. I use them in the boys' playroom to keep the toys up and off the floor. When they are older it will make for easy pick-up as I can slide a picture of what belongs where into the plastic card holder on the front of the tote!

-Square baskets in drawers (or even shoeboxes!) are a great organizational tool for socks, underwear, belts, even make-up or other car products for a vanity! It also helps you to same time by letting you find items quickly.

-Over-the-door hangers save space! I have one for shoes in the closet, one for magazines in my living area and one for towels and misc. clothing articles in my room! They are great for children's room as well for those PJ's you want them to wear again or their coats and diaper bags!

-Keep all of your instructions to all those kids toys together with a multi-pocket folder or manila envelope. Then, when you need to figure out how to turn OFF that annoying pull-toy, you can look it up!

-One last tip! Blackboard paint! Get rid of all your post-it notes and stray papers by buying a gallon of blackboard paint and painting a door or a square on your wall. This is by far the best thing that I have done here! All notes, lists and phone messages get written on the door and we have had a lot less paper trail since!

I hope some of these ideas help you out! They have been really helpful around here! I can finally put things away and find them again (that's the key LOL) without stressing or spending forever digging through piles!
