Da Cajn Critter

Da Cajn Critter
by Pamela D. Lyles

About the book: New Orleans native Pamela D. Lyles’ Da Cajn Critter: The Lifestyles, The Rules, and Makin’ Groceries unites culture and family with 185 recipes of the best southern fare. Her book is a way to pass along a rich heritage and connect it to uniquely flavored dishes. Da Cajn Critter has something for celebrating the ordinary as well as big occasions, including the holidays, Mardi Gras, and Valentine’s Day. Pamela’s book shows there is a lot of depth and variety to Cajun and Creole food. Her recipes draw from many sources and influences, but the Louisiana-certified book certainly best exemplifies the best of traditional New Orleans fare with a touch of modern-day southern culture.

From me: I was pretty excited to be able to review this recipe book because I figured I'd never get around to visiting New Orleans and the food there always looks and sounds so good! I've already found an awesome French Toast recipe for the boys (my last attempt, without a recipe, was pretty sad), a Baked Potato Soup recipe for me and also a recipe for Spiced Tea that I can make up ahead of time. The other dinner recipes (namely the ones involving meat) are being saved for a day when I actually want to cook LOL I have to say though, the directions are clear and easy to follow and I really like the little "notes" that the author put at the bottom of each page. It made it a little more interesting to see background on a family recipe. The only thing that would have made the book better? Pictures! I would have loved to see pictures of all of those yummy foods!
