Tasty Tuesday: Sweet & Spicy Sweet Potatoes

Sweet & Spicy Sweet Potatoes

(I got this recipe, and picture, from

2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons packed brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning (didn't have, left out)
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 pinch cayenne pepper (didn't have, replaced with Red Pepper)

1. Preheat an oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).

2. Place the sweet potato chunks into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with the olive oil, then sprinkle the brown sugar, paprika, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, poultry seasoning, chili powder, and cayenne pepper overtop. Toss until the potatoes are evenly coated with the seasoning. Spread onto a baking sheet.

3. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then turn the potatoes over with a spatula, and continue baking until the sweet potatoes are golden and tender, 10 to 15 minutes more.

So, I have basically decided that I just don't like sweet potatoes. I've tried three different recipes, and while everyone else thinks they taste fabulous, I just can't like them LOL And so ends my quest for the perfect sweet potato recipe! For what it's worth, my mom thought this recipe was AWESOME. She said it's her new favorite way to eat them. The boys, of course, wouldn't touch 'em.

I haven't had a lot of sweet potatoes, but the first time I did I loved them! It was some casserole with a lot of butter and brown sugar and pecans (YUM!)

My mom also gave me some a couple years ago and I made sweet potato fries that were similar to this recipe, which I remember liking. Though I've had other sweet potato fries down in South Carolina that I thought were really gross-it was like breaded and fried baby food-yuck! If I had those as my first sweet potato experience I'm sure I wouldn't like them either! LOL!
