The Whole Bible Story

The Whole Bible Story
by Dr. William H. Marty

From the book: The Bible tells a story. It's a beautiful account of God's love for people throughout history. The events told in the Bible are exciting, tender, and at times awe-inspiring, but often the story can get lost among the laws, genealogies, prophecies, poetry, and instructions. Sometimes we need to get back to what happens in the Bible, Focusing on the plot and the characters.

Here, Dr. William Marty retells the entire story in the Bible in one easy-to-read, chronological account. All the stories you remember from childhood - Noah, David, Esther, Daniel, and, of course, Jesus - are part of one grand narrative. And it's the page-turning story of God's pursuit of you - one you'll want to read again and again.

From me: This is not a fictional embellishment of the stories in the Bible, this is just the stories in the Bible, minus all the confusing genealogies and laws and etc.

For me: this was an interesting read and well-written, but I'd rather stick to the Bible.

For others: Dr. Marty wrote this book, it seems, to be an introduction to the Bible (for those that are not familiar with it, and to whom reading the Bible seems a daunting task); while I can see how this book would be helpful, I can't quite bring myself to hand it to someone like that - I would rather give them a New Testament in the Message.

, I think that The Whole Bible Story is a fantastic resource for children who know how to read and would like to "read through the Bible", but find it to be an overwhelming and boring task. The stories are clear and precise, with explanations on unknown terms when necessary. Each chapter opens with a list of the main characters and the setting and closes with a chapter summary. It's a nice, chatty read perfect for children and pre-teens.

And yes, probably for those that have never opened a Bible in their lives as well.

Thanks to Bethany House Publishers for offering me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

I have always enjoyed the stories of the bible but have also always had a problem being able to read parts of the bible like the geneologies & laws and really get anything from it. This seems like a very good attempt to allow people to see the bible clearly without the what I would think of as "difficult" parts.
